Alexandrite from the family/household of Chrysoberyl
Alexandrite Gemstone is a tabular transparent crystal coming from the family of coarsely formed extremely rare colour-changing mineral ‘Chrysoberyl’, a vitreously shiny mineral which is an oxide mixture of Aluminium and Beryllium with a chemical formula of BeAl2O4. The name ‘ Alexandrite ‘ comes from the fact that this gemstone was first discovered in the Emerald mines of Russia’s Ural Mountains in 1830, on the birthday of Russia’s Prince at the time Alexander II.
Appearing to be a lovely ‘Bluish – Green’ in natural transcendental light and a fluorescent ‘Purplish – Red’ under incandescent artificial light, often regarded by gem aficionados as “Emerald by day, Ruby by night” with its Chameleon-like qualities, Alexandrite is a crystal of contrasts and a stone of new beginnings. Alexandrite is also a strongly Pleochroic gem, which means it can show different colours when viewed from different angles. Typically, its three Pleochroic colours are green, orange, and purple-red. Since Pleochroic is only an optical phenomenon, the striking colour change only arises from the mineral’s unusual light-absorbing properties. Aligning the inter-woven mass of the Solar plexus and Crown chakras, it incorporates the mind into spiritual endeavours and opens the door of Crown chakra towards the empirical knowledge of transcendental growth.
